Get The Look – #6 Suits & Trainers

This week I wanted to do something more casual but still very classy, while also being very easy to copy and alter to fit your style. Most of us wouldn’t actually have to go out and buy anything to create this look as we all own a suit, a hoody and trainers. The look itself is simple, it is combined of a very slim grey hoody designed for warmer months, a decent light blue suit, a dark blue pocket square, a watch, some shades and a pair of crisp white trainers. Sounds simple right? Absolutely!

The Look – Suits & Trainers

The Hoody

The hoody in this look is actually the most important part of this outfit, even more important than the suit. The reason why the hoody is so important is because it really dictates how people see the outfit. If you use a thick hoody with a logo then the outfit will look cheap and actually quite “gangster boy gone to court.” Keep the hoody thin, use a light colour and the hoody will fit nicely under your suit.

The Suit

The suit is a slim fit suit made from linen, which is perfect for all those hot summer days. I would suggest wearing one of your bigger suits so you can move around comfortably (also why wearing a thin hoody is important.) The suit in this look has beautiful wide lapels, 2 buttons for fastening the jacket and the trousers are cuffed (rolled up.)

The Pocket Square

Pocket squares are fantastic always and in this outfit they are no different. Simply add any colour pocket square you want to this outfit and it will fit, here’s a few I like from Moss Bros.

The Trainers

Without a doubt, the item I love in this look are the trainers. For summer, we all should own crisp white trainers that just reflect the light into everyone’s eyes and make us look fantastic. You have so many options when it comes to white trainers but I would keep it as simple as possible. My favourite is definitely Vans.

Shades & Watch

For the shades and watch, I don’t actually want to recommend anything for you guys. These two things are not important to the outfit and what you choose to wear is completely down to personal taste.

Let me know how you get on with this look and let me know what you think below in the comments.

Uniqlo Extra Fine Merino V-Neck Jumper

Although the weathers heating up its not exactly leave your jacket at home kind of weather and I find spring is generally the best times to buy winter things like jumpers & coats, as they are always cheapest coming up to summer. If you go shopping in london often then you definitely know Uniqlo, mostly popular in the asian countries but have grown massively in recent years. Generally known for their lightweight clothes and rainbow like colours. Sounds like a great company, it is, I bought a jumper from them 4 years ago and still wear it often these days and hasn’t lost it’s colour or shape, unlike my Zara jumper I bought for double the price two months ago.

Jumper Under Your Suit.

Wearing jumpers is a fantastic way to look dapper and add a layer onto your outfit. They can be worn under your suit or over a t shirt with some dark jeans, great for smart & smart/casual outfits. This Uniqlo jumper is actually fantastic, made from 100% fine merino wool, which may not sound that nice as the wool we think of is the itchy one people wear on TV. This wool is really fine, compact and really thin making it feel exactly like a cotton jumper except when you stretch the fabric it will bounce back into shape unlike cotton ones which just stay stretched out. The jumper feels soft inside and out so feel free to give your belly a rub after lunch.

The V-neck neckline allows you to wear this over a shirt with a tie on without the jumper covering your beautiful windsor knot you spent 5 minutes getting perfect in the morning.

Priced at £24.90, ranging in sizes from XS to XXL and in every colour under the rainbow, you really can not fault this wonderful jumper. I would definitely recommend grabbing a few while you’re at it.

Moss London Slim Fit Grey Check Suit

MOSS LONDON SLIM FIT GREY CHECK SUIT

The Moss London Slim Fit Grey Check Suit is one of those suits I’m not a big fan of. Is it unique? No! Is it something new and fresh? Not really. Could you wear this to a special event? Please don’t!

So why would you buy a grey checked suit. Well..

Grey checked suits stand out in an amazingly subtle way. Grey suits can pretty much be worn every day of the week, whether worn to work with a tie or on the weekend with a bow tie. People love checked suits and grey ones are no different. I don’t know why but everyone just assumes a checked suit is an expensive suit. The Moss London Slim Fit Grey Check Suit is a normal single breasted slim fit suit with one button fastening.

For some reason Moss decided not to allow us to pick our own trouser size and actually just design the trousers to be six inches smaller than the chest size. Although I find this extremely weird for a company to force you into wearing a certain trouser size, it does however make sense as most people generally are 6 inches smaller in their waist. I’m actually a size 40 chest in slim fit and 34 waist so well done to them. If you find the trousers don’t fit you could easily send it back or take it to your local Moss Bros.

Made from 100% polyester, its just a normal quality retail suit really. As you would expect in a retail suit, the Moss London Slim Fit Grey Check Suit is priced at £99.

So I don’t know if you have been convinced by all of this, I personally havent. I love checked suits, I like grey suits, I’m not the biggest fan of one button fastening and don’t like the fact I can’t pick my own trouser length. If you don’t mind these things and just want the suit.. Here you go..

Ben Sherman Grey Prince Of Wales Check Kings Fit Suit

As we all know the main part of a man’s outfit is his trousers & jacket/coat. The suit you wear is obviously the most important thing, if your suit is quality, chances are you can get away with a cheap shirt. However, I doubt you could wear a Primark suit, a Rolex and a TM Lewin tie and look that good.

As many of you know I only just recently found out about Suit Direct and since then I have been shopping on their website non-stop. It’s a great site, not filled with top quality Prada & Boss suits but just normal suits like Ben Sherman and similar brands.

We all know Ben Sherman, they aren’t Tom Ford but they are definitely good quality products. I think it’s fair to say you can imagine that considering the Grey Prince Of Wales Check Kings Fit Suit is designed by them we can expect a certain level of quality in the suit.

Priced at £129.00 for the whole suit.. Totally worth it!

The ‘Kings Fit’ may not be a term you are used too but to simplify it for you, it’s basically a slim fit suit but not too slim. It’s generally designed for men moving up in their career and not really for an 18 year old starting out in suits. However if you want to be taken serious in your role, then I definitely advise this fit.

Single Breasted Two Button Jacket • Slim Fit • Notch Lapel • 4 Button Cuff • Slanted Pockets • Side Vents

Made from 100% wool this suit is guaranteed to last you 5-10 years. Most ‘wool’ suits you find in retails stores are generally a poly-wool blend, meaning a mixture of polyester and wool. What you can expect from a suit that’s 100% wool is a soft thick feel. Not ideal for summer but absolutely perfect for spring, autumn or winter.

The check design of this suit is perfect for standing out and looking dapper whether at the office or at a special occasion. The check design on the suit is quite large and clear, this design is often known as window pane. Window pane checked suits go amazingly well with bow ties and look perfect with some nice hi-shine oxford shoes.

Prince Of Wales Check Tie

PRINCE OF WALES CHECK TIE

While I was writing one of my other post’s I was scrolling through the many different items on the Burton website and then I came across this Prince Of Wales Check Tie. I can’t really explain why I like this tie but I suppose it is just my kind of tie. You can wear it with so many different outfits, whether to work with your normal suits or on a weekend with a blazer and some jeans. It has that vintage look, which as everyone knows – vintage = dapper.

Priced at only £6.. Can you have any complaints.

Shopping in department stores can be a little tricky because there are tons of brands and you never really know if everything you’re looking at is of the quality you would expect. A great example of that is Primark have stores inside Selfridges so you can’t always trust department stores. House Of Fraser is no different, so I’m generally a bit picky when shopping with them.

Skopes As A Brand

While browsing through the website I was looking for a suit that’s different to what I’ve been posting recently and I realised I haven’t actually posted a decent black suit. Skopes as a brand is a trusted brand in the suit tailoring world. They are not known for skinny or slim fit suits that portray you as a young person starting out in your career. However their suits are almost all tailored fit to give you that well established in the suit wearing world look.

Skopes Madrid Suit

The Skopes Madrid Suit is made from a super fine twill cloth, which is a very practical and comfortable suit. It feels very light weight yet still feels like it will last a long time. The lapels are your standard peak lapels but not the skinny ones, nor are they too wide, they are just the middle width – perfect for average/wide ties.

Three piece suits are amazing and the Skopes Madrid Suit is no different. Available in black, grey, charcoal and navy in jacket, trousers and waistcoat all for only £118. You can also buy it without the waistcoat for under £100. I must warn you though that House Of Fraser sell out on suits very quickly, I’ve lost suits by waiting too long.

Review’s

I picked out two reviews of the suit from the house of fraser website for you guys to have a look at.

Very Good Quality
The delivery was superbly on time considering the item was ordered late Saturday night and arrived as promised Sunday night. The quality was excellent and fit was perfect.

Unbeatable Value
Great slimmer fit suit at an amazing price! Durable finish with luxurious lining optimizing on attention to detail. Great for work or occasions. Jacket true to size, trousers slightly generous on waist but a nice tailored fit.

My Newest Wool Addition

The Grey Donegal Slim Fit Suit

So I was out shopping the other day for shoes and I decided to pop into Next to check the sales and as always I hated it completely. So I decided to skip past the sale section and just head over to the normal bit where it’s a bit more civilised. So I decided to walk around all the normal section where I would normally get my suits from and they all just looked a bit off. So then it came to me that I actually don’t actually own a wool suit. So literally as soon as I thought that, I saw the perfect suit.

The Grey Donegal Slim Fit Suit

When I initially walked into the store I was only looking to spend about £50, so I find myself holding a £130 suit and still intending to also get the waistcoat as well. At this time I didn’t even know how much the waistcoat was but decided to ask. After a very long wait (long queues) I finally got to the checkout to find the waistcoat came in at £40. Since I originally only intended to spend £50, looking at spending £170 on the till was a bit much for me so I decided to skip the waistcoat this time.

This wool suit is fantastic, it is a warm suit which is obviously great for winter, the wool makes it really comfortable and the detail within the stitching of the fabric is beautiful. The only issue with wool is when you wear the suit jacket with a short-sleeve shirt you can feel the wool on your arms which is uncomfortable but with a long-sleeve shirt it’s completely fine.

Wool suits can generally be a problem to clean and brush off but thankfully this suit isn’t 100% wool – if it was I would have paid probably well over £200 for it so this suit only requires a simple dry cleaning, the same as the rest of your suits.

One little extra is it comes with a pocket square that matches the lining on the inside of the suit which is fantastic obviously.
