Keep A Suit Hidden

If you don’t already do this you need to start ASAP. Keeping one of your suits out of public eye is important, especially for those of us that don’t own a tuxedo. We need to have that special suit that no one has really seen or the last time they’ve seen it was so long ago they think it’s a brand new suit.

As people we love change, we love things that a different or new. I don’t know the phycology behind it but try it out, it’s so true. I have my blue pin stripe suit that I wear 3-5 times a year. It’s my favorite suit and for that reason I rarely wear it.

Collar Stays/Bones

Maintaining the appearance of your clothes should be a top priority for all of us. Looking after our clothes is often so simple to do yet so many of us slack in it. Little things like brushing our clothes, using a lint roller or shoe trees can really make all the difference. One thing that many people miss out on is collar bones. Collar bones are the hard things in your shirt collar that stop your collar from loosing it’s shape. Many of you won’t actually need these because your shirts won’t actually have the space in your shirt collar for it. If you have a quality shirt from TM Lewin, M&S or Hawes & Curtis then you will definitely know about collar bones.

The important thing to know is; always take out your collar bones before putting your shirt in the wash. Collar bones come in either metal or plastic, I prefer the plastic ones but both are equally as good really.

Ensure your shirt collar stays flat and crisp with this set of collar stays. Designed to slot into the specially-made pockets on the underside of the shirt’s collar. Not every shirt is fitted with these pockets, so best check your shirt beforehand.

Get The Look

When it comes to getting dressed in the morning, I don’t know about most of you but I definitely do not have more than 20 minutes to get dressed. If I take any longer than 20 minutes I’m definitely going to be late to work. Are there ways around this? Of course! I could wake up earlier or I could get my outfit ready the night before but let’s be honest here, I’m not going to do that. So the easiest way round it is to have outfits that are simple yet look fabulous. Here’s why I chose this picture for this weeks get the look; simple suit, bright tie and stand out accessories – love it!

The Look

Looking at the picture you can tell from the get-go that everyone including you and me instantly noticed the tie which is absolutely fantastic. Outfits that have one stand out thing about excite me. These kind of outfits can often earn you nick names and get you noticed by some people who used to just look past you. The outfit is really simple and easy to replicate; it starts off with a plain navy blue 2 buttoned tailored fit suit with normal width lapels. Pair that with a plan white double or single cuffed shirt (I prefer double) and you have 99% of the suit wearing worlds outfit.

Here’s the fun part; grab yourself a brown woven belt & a nice medium width bright coloured polka dot tie. The great thing about wearing a plain navy blue suit, pretty much any other colour apart from blue fits perfectly. You can throw down a bright red polka dot tie or yellow striped tie, it wouldn’t matter much because it would just look fantastic either way. Once you decided on the tie, grab yourself a matching coloured flower pin, add some beaded bracelets and don’t forget your watch. Outfit done, probably in all under 20 minutes as well.

Look Good Feel Good

I have had a lot of people ask me about why I dress the way I dress and I’ve answered this before but I figured this time I’d explain something I usually leave out. I think we all dress good and look good so that we feel good. Or is it just me? I mean ultimately we spend time and money picking the right items of clothing and building the outfits we love so that other people see us looking good. Which sounds a bit self centered but none of us get dressed at home in our best clothes and then just sit around, take no pictures and then get changed again into our shorts.

Feeling good comes in many different formats when it comes to clothing. The main two are; are you comfortable in what you’re wearing & do you think you look good. Once we answer yes to both of those then we have the perfect outfit.

This all sprung to my mind today while I was wearing my Next wool suit. No word of a lie wool suits are extremely comfortable and soft. They are so much nicer to move around in compared to the normal polyblend suits I normally wear.

More important than how comfortable my suit is or how nice it is to walk in brogues, ultimately I care about one thing – what do others think of it? Now I don’t mean, I’m going to cry if I get no compliments, but in fact I mean, do I blend in or do I stand out? Do I get a second look or do people see through me? The compliments are just an added bonus.

Whether you prefer comfort over looks in your outfit, ultimately if you could get both, wouldn’t you want it? Get to know what suits, shirts and shoes are comfortable and look great. The feeling when you got two in one – perfect!

Bright Blue Tonic Slim Fit Suit

Summer’s coming and let’s be honest, we miss it. When it comes to what to wear in summer, its obvious, we all wear bright colours. All the pink shirts come out, all the extremely bright ties are pulled out of the draw. We do it every year and this year will be no different. I’ve got a tip when it comes to summer shopping; buy all your bright summer clothes in winter. They are all on sale for silly prices because no one wants super thin and incredibly bright suits in january.

Which brings me to this Bright Blue Tonic Slim Fit Suit from Burton. Blues are great, everyone loves them and tonic blues are sharp and they very much grab everyones attention. I have had a few issues with buying suits from Burton in the past, many times the suit has just worn away ridiculously fast. On the other side, I have had a few good suits that lasted me awhile from Burton so I wouldn’t totally rule them out.

The bright blue on this suit is just perfect – It just looks like the suns shining. You can definitely wear this suit with all other bright colour accessories, whether it be a yellow pocket square, a pink tie or green socks.

This is by far my favourite pic of the week, I can also see that you guys loved it just based on the sheer amount of likes on Instagram. I guess we all liked it for different reasons, mine personally was the bag, I’m actually shopping for a bag now so that could be why. Comprised of Blues & Blacks this look is simple, yet complex. We all love blue in our outfits, it’s an easy colour to work with, we just understand it. Yet when take that navy blue suit; turn it into a double breasted suit and throw over some checked patterns, you get a whole new ball game. My Top Picks – Jumpers

I have received a lot of direct messages from you guys on Instagram and Twitter asking me about the different jumpers I would recommend. I’m glad you all liked my post and it was great to see some pictures of you in your jumpers and suits. Only & Sons (The designers) are a Danish brand known for using high quality materials in their jumpers so I’d say this 100% cotton jumper is well worth the price tag of £30.

We all know and love FCUK and this jumper is no different. Made from 100% cotton and made in regular fit it’s perfect for wearing over your double cuffed shirt. The cuffs on the jumper are ribbed which is fine because you are still able to roll up the sleeves with ease so you can show off your shirt and cufflinks under your suit. Priced slightly higher than the other jumpers at £40, I don’t really think it’s worth it but if you like designers then I guess you’re paying for the logo.

Over Your Shirt & Under Your Suit – Ben Sherman

When it comes to wearing dressing smart and looking dapper, without a doubt you are going to need a few different pieces of clothing. It’s just not enough to have one £150 suit from M&S and a couple of ties. As humans we love change, how nice is it to see your girl change her hair colour? We love seeing different things and different styles, even if you own 5 suits but wear them all the same way people will get bored of your outfits. Here’s where jumpers come into play; people want to see that you can dress well with different styles. Jumpers can look amazing over a shirt with no tie and some dark jeans or they can be worn under your suit with your sharp shoes and perfect tie.

We know Ben Sherman, we expect quality from them and the Cotton V-Neck Jumper by Ben Sherman is one of my favourites. Finding a quality cotton jumper that won’t stretch or wear out is difficult nowadays, especially because you can easily buy a jumper from H&M for a tenner.

This jumper is made from a lightweight cotton, which will keep you cool in the summer and adds an extra layer to your outfit during the winter. The whole jumper has a ribbed hem and ribbed cuffs along with elbow patches made visible from stitching which contrasts the general stitching of the jumper.

V-neck jumpers are really not my thing, it doesn’t really suit my character, however with this jumper comboed with a shirt it looks great and even suits me. Whether you want to go for the casual weekend look or add to your work outfit, the Cotton V-Neck Jumper by Ben Sherman is perfect for you.

Wearing blazers/suits aren’t just for work or weekdays, in fact anyone who knows anything about style or fashion would know that wearing blazers on a weekend is extremely stylish. Velvet blazers take it to another level altogether. They are classy, smart and spectacular all in one, I definitely recommend everyone own at least one. The problem most of us find is that velvet blazers are usually priced around £200, which just for one blazer you will only probably wear twice a month, it is pretty expensive.
