Next Burgundy Suit

next burgundy suit

I know a few of you bought the burgundy loafers and brogues that I posted last week so I wanted to give you something that will really complete the outfit. Burgundy is a very special colour because it used to be very unique and rare to find someone in a burgundy suit, nowadays it’s pretty normal, although they still has that kind of wow factor about them. This Next suit is a standard slim fit suit with two buttons and twin back vents its pretty much what you would expect from Next.

Quality

This is not a suit of high quality so if you do buy it then expect “floating pieces of fluff” to get stuck to your suit jacket. Be sure to carry a lint roller in your bag or keep it at your desk. Made out of mostly polyester, Next states that this suit is machine washable but I personally would stay away from sticking your blazer or trousers in the washing machine.

Price

This suit is really cheap at a retail price of £79 for the jacket and blazer and an extra £29 for the waistcoat its like the perfect back up suit. This burgundy suit perfectly matches the brogues and loafers I wrote about earlier, which if you bought one, you could have a full burgundy outfit for £100 – bargain!

5 Chronograph Watches Under £60

TAG_HP

So I’ve had a few people ask me about watches, what watches I recommend and if I can find some great watches for a great price. Well I’m currently only wearing my LG G Watch R. I decided to compile a few watches that I would buy for under £60 that can pretty much go with most outfits as I know not everyone can afford expensive watches yet.

When buying a watch you have so many different ways to buy a watch. I suppose what I generally do is find a watch I love then do a google search on the name and find the cheapest possible price for the watch. One Warning though – be careful about ordering from China or buying watches at ridiculously low prices as they will generally just be cheap knock off versions of the real watch you want.

So for this post I decided to use one website which I know to be trustworthy but also to be quite cheap.

House Of Watches

I will be compiling a list of six different watches that I think are great first watches or even cheap replacements to your broken watch.

1. Timex Mens Expedition Chronograph Bracelet Watch T49904

Timex Mens Expedition Chronograph Bracelet Watch T49904
The Timex Mens Expedition Chronograph Bracelet Watch T49904 is a stainless steel watch which is a great look on almost all outfits. The metal bracelet and the black face looks stunning too. It’s waterproof down to fifty metres which to me is probably irrelevant to you and me. Normally priced at £89.99 it’s now on sale for £53 so this would definitely be my number one choice.

2. Sekonda Mens Chronograph Watch 3375

Sekonda Mens Chronograph Watch 3375
The Sekonda Mens Chronograph Watch 3375 is one of those slim steel watches with a Chronograph blue watch face. This a superb watch for under £40 it would be extremely difficult to get a better deal than this. This watch has a ridiculous amount of 5 star reviews online all you have to do is google the watch.

3. Sekonda Mens Two Tone Chronograph Watch 3878

Sekonda Mens Two Tone Chronograph Watch 3878

The Sekonda Mens Two Tone Chronograph Watch 3878 is everything you would want from a watch. It’s beautiful to look at, it looks expensive, it has that “look at me I’m two toned gold and silver” feel. With the white face and the roman numerals, you know this watch is special. Sekonda definitely did a great job with this. Usually priced at £79.99 this beauty is now on sale for £59. Also water resistant up to 50m, same as the others.

4. Sekonda Mens Chronograph Bracelet Watch 3419

Sekonda Mens Chronograph Bracelet Watch 3419

The Sekonda Mens Chronograph Bracelet Watch 3419 is definitely a gentlemans watch. Everything steel makes it one of those durable watches you can feel on your wrist at all times. The steel bracelet with the black watch face make it the perfect partner for all your outfits. I’d definitely recommend this as a first watch as you can wear this in the gym, out to the cinema and most importantly with your suit to work.

5. Lorus Mens Bracelet Watch RS929BX9

Lorus Mens Bracelet Watch RS929BX9

The Lorus Mens Bracelet Watch RS929BX9 is the black sheep (literally) to this list. It’s not a chronograph watch but I feel like a lot of you will love this watch. If you want to be subtle in your class and appear to be normal from a distance but look great from up close, then this is your watch. Priced at £53 its something we all can afford. It’s minimalistic design with the dials and simple date window is great for those guys who like to keep it simple.

Return Policy

House Of Watches offers a 30 day returns policy so purchases that do not meet requirements or are simply unwanted can be returned for a full, hassle-free exchange or refund within 30 days of receipt.

Kin by John Lewis Mercer Knitted Tie

knitted tie - above the ankles

I’m pretty sure we all know what knitted ties are by now, thanks to knitted ties many people are now leaving their silk ties, which have now become “bland” and “normal”, left at the back of the draw. Knitted ties are different; they usually will attract some attention from average Joe’s. Their loosely woven look allows a nice and friendly persona.

Also known as the sock tie, the knitted ties usually have a blunt straight end as opposed to the conventional pointed end. Almost all knitted ties can be used both for smart and casual. They are usually made from silk but I prefer the polyester ones.

The Kin by John Lewis Mercer Knitted Tie comes in a variety of colours, from navy to black to gold and red. It’s only 5cm in width making it pretty much the perfect fit.

These are being sold by John Lewis for £19.50 – you could probably get them online cheaper maybe for £10 or so.

Burgundy Brogues & Loafers

office burgundy loafers 7

So I’ve been out quite a bit lately doing some shopping, as I’m sure you’re aware from all my different posts recently. So while in the shopping centre as always I checked OFFICE for shoes, I get probably 75% of my shoes from there so as per usual I figured I would try and buy some brogues from there. I couldn’t find the right pair for me so I decided to leave. Just before leaving I noticed these two beautiful pair of burgundy shoes. I have never owned burgundy shoes although it is probably one of my favourite colours when it comes to clothing, both formal and casual, but I have never really had an outfit that would look great with burgundy shoes.

Unfortunately that is still the case today, I don’t have an outfit to go with these shoes, although I’m very tempted to buy them and store them somewhere. The two shoes are; Arabella Tassel Burgundy Hi Shine Leather Loafers & the Frankie Brogue Burgundy Hi Shine Leather.

Loafers

Arabella Tassel Burgundy Hi Shine Leather Loafers

The Arabella loafer is a smart slip on shoe made with hi shine dark burgundy leather. With wig tip detailing, this style also features two tassels on the front along with a contrasting black sole with a slim block heel.

– Leather Upper
– Leather sock
– Leather lining
– Synthetic sole

was £ 69.99
NOW £ 35.00

Brogues

Frankie Brogue Burgundy Hi Shine Leather

Round toe lace up brogue in high shine dark burgundy leather with punch hole detail and a contrasting natural leather look sole.

– Leather upper
– Leather sock
– Leather lining
– Synthetic sole

was £ 69.99
NOW £ 32.00

Which One?

Well to be honest, my advice is get both if you can afford too, if not then go with what suits your style best. If you don’t own loafers or brogues yet, I’d go and get some black versions first before starting off with burgundy.

White Shirts

Many people get away with this, well at least they think they do. I have fallen victim to this and have learnt the hard way and the worst thing about this problem is chances are no one will tell you about it. You’re probably thinking why wouldn’t your friends tell you, well to be honest; they probably don’t fully realise themselves. The problem with having a dis-coloured white shirt is no-one really notices consciously. However without them knowing; they probably think a lot less of your outfit thanks to your “white” shirt. Have you ever looked at someone and thought, wow his shirt is really bright? Chances are you liked the rest of his outfit too. I have had so many conversations with different people about why my shirt’s are so bright, especially in summer when the suns shining.

Now unfortunately I’m not going to tell you how to look after your shirts, I don’t use daz or any other stupidly expensive washing powder or anything like that. If you really have no idea then google how to look after white shirts. I have only two tips for you.

Open Your Wardrobe

Open your wardrobe and look at your shirts, how do they actually look. Do they look good, are they worn out. A good place to start is with your oldest shirt, compare it to your newest. Are there any rips or bits that are tethered? Chances are if you can’t remember buying the shirt then it’s probably faded and has that second-hand white/grey look.

Don’t Be Lazy

Actually make an effort to look after your shirts. Wash them when they are dirty. Get stain remover (I use vanish) and get rid of the stains the same day they happen! Don’t leave them on the floor ever! Once they are washed; hang them up. You’re not a child anymore (even if you live with your mum), it’s time to step up and look your best.

Your Image

The way you look always reflects on how you feel. When you buy a brand new white shirt and put it on fresh from the packet, you automatically feel a lot better. You feel rich, you feel like you’re ready. You can always go out and constantly buy brand new shirts, if you’re blessed with that kind of money then well done. In my case I make my shirts last between a year and 18 months. After about 18 months it’s time for me to visit the charity shop then visit the shopping centres.

Remember people are watching, if you just want to dress well and get compliments – great! If you want more from life, if you want to go places and achieve something, people are looking at the finer details. If you take care of yourself and your possessions chances are people will entrust you to take care of them.

Keep em white!

ASOS Brogue Shoes in Leather

ASOS Brogue Shoes in Leather

Since I bought my new The Grey Donegal Slim Fit Suit (Read my post here) I decided I needed new shoes that perfectly match my new suit. I’m ashamed to say I am actually yet to own a pair of brogues (I know right.)

So as you probably guessed, I jumped online and started looking at some shoes. Now the last 2-3 weeks I have bought some shirts, a new suit, a new watch and countless other little things so I suppose the idea of spending more money on new shoes I don’t actually need was a bit daunting. So considering I’m slightly addicted towards looking my best I knew I had to get some shoes so after scrawling through ASOS, I eventually picked out 10 different brogues I would buy.

These brogues are 100% real leather so you know you’re getting real quality. Priced at £40 I definitely grabbed myself a bargain on these brogues. These are great for men who wear slim fitted suits as they aren’t very wide shoes which is pretty much the main reason I didn’t get brogues in the first place. When buying brown shoes it’s a lot more risky in comparison to black shoes. Black shoes are just one set colour, but when it comes to brown, there’s so many different shades of brown and you need to make sure you have the right shade along with the right belt. I decided to get these as they are a dark and light shade of brown at the same time – It’s like the perfect middle colour.

My Newest Wool Addition

The Grey Donegal Slim Fit Suit

So I was out shopping the other day for shoes and I decided to pop into Next to check the sales and as always I hated it completely. So I decided to skip past the sale section and just head over to the normal bit where it’s a bit more civilised. So I decided to walk around all the normal section where I would normally get my suits from and they all just looked a bit off. So then it came to me that I actually don’t actually own a wool suit. So literally as soon as I thought that, I saw the perfect suit.

The Grey Donegal Slim Fit Suit

When I initially walked into the store I was only looking to spend about £50, so I find myself holding a £130 suit and still intending to also get the waistcoat as well. At this time I didn’t even know how much the waistcoat was but decided to ask. After a very long wait (long queues) I finally got to the checkout to find the waistcoat came in at £40. Since I originally only intended to spend £50, looking at spending £170 on the till was a bit much for me so I decided to skip the waistcoat this time.

This wool suit is fantastic, it is a warm suit which is obviously great for winter, the wool makes it really comfortable and the detail within the stitching of the fabric is beautiful. The only issue with wool is when you wear the suit jacket with a short-sleeve shirt you can feel the wool on your arms which is uncomfortable but with a long-sleeve shirt it’s completely fine.

Wool suits can generally be a problem to clean and brush off but thankfully this suit isn’t 100% wool – if it was I would have paid probably well over £200 for it so this suit only requires a simple dry cleaning, the same as the rest of your suits.

One little extra is it comes with a pocket square that matches the lining on the inside of the suit which is fantastic obviously.

Mens Suspenders/Braces

mens suspenders above the ankles 3

So it’s fair to say; no-one needs suspenders (braces) anymore, neither women nor men. So as with most things we own, we use them as a stylish accessory instead of an outfit necessity. To start this I’m going to answer three questions and I think you will all agree with me on these.

Do you need suspenders? – No not at all.
Are suspenders in fashion? – No they’re not.
Will you stand out in them? – Yes absolutely.

mens suspenders above the ankles 6

In the interest of standing out and being unique I’m going to talk you through why you should be looking to get yourself some suspenders and also some do’s and don’ts when it comes to wearing them.

Firstly they are definitely not for everyone so I would advise trying them on and seeing how comfortable you feel in them. The main thing here is confidence, you need to quite sure in yourself to be able to pull off your suit jacket and attract all those eyes over to what you’re wearing.

Do’s & Don’ts

When wearing suspenders with a suit, always wear wide suspenders, thin suspenders look silly with a suits (unless it’s a skinny fit suit) and should only be used with casual outfits. Stick to thick!

mens suspenders above the ankles

Choose one or the other – either wear a belt or suspenders, never both at the same time. It’s one of those fashion suicide things.

Check your trousers, some trousers have buttons on the side of the waist for suspenders to be attached to, others don’t have this so you will need to buy clip on suspenders in order to clip them onto your waist.

When initially starting to wear suspenders choose neutral colours that go with everything, such as black or grey. Once you’re comfortable then move onto the browns and reds.

Moss London Slim Fit Silver Tonic Mixer

moss bros silver tonic suit

Silver suits are a favourite of mine, definitely not a suit you would wear to work, I know some people do but hey, each to their own. The Moss London Tonic Mixer suit was my favourite suit 3 years ago before I eventually managed to buy a tuxedo. The suit goes great with everything and you really can stand out if you wear it to the right place. I have worn mine to weddings, award ceremonies, parties and even on a night out a few times. It’s one buttoned with notch lapels and single breasted, it really suits the slim fit style nicely. It comes with the normal two pockets and breasted pocket which I’m hoping you will keep the pockets closed and not ruin the shape of the jacket!

When I bought this it was known as the Ventuno21 suit but now it’s called the Moss London but I’m pretty sure it’s still the exact same fit as the one I had. The new Moss waistcoats are low cut so they only have three buttons as opposed to the normal five or six. The trousers on this suit are really thigh hugging so if you have quite big thighs I wouldn’t suggest this suit unless you know your measurements, and make sure you check the sizing guides.

When I initially bought this suit I remember it being around £150+ for the whole set but thankfully now it’s on sale;

The Blazer – From £99.00 To £59.00
The Trousers – From £60 To £20
The Waistcoat – From £49.00 To £39.00

The Total Price – £118.00

I would highly recommend the Moss London Slim Fit Silver Tonic Mixer as long as you’re not planning on wearing it for daily use, keep it only for events and times when you’re planning on really showing off.

48 Hours Later… LG G Watch R Review

lg g watch r review above the ankles

So I’ve been using the LG G Watch R for over 48 hours now and I must say I’ve noticed some great things and some really crap things. Smart watch technology is clearly something new and you can tell there’s still many things all these geeky tech people need to work on.

So as I’m a little different, I’m going to start of with all the negatives of this watch and really just explain all my frustrations with the LG G Watch R.

What’s Annoying

Although this watch has one of the biggest screens in comparison to other smart watches, it’s still not big enough meaning there’s not really enough space to move things around using your fingers.

You have to actually talk to the watch more than you use your fingers to swipe which can get a little weird saying “ok google” into your wrist.

The battery will drain in 6 hours if you have the brightness up and the screen always on. This means you’re basically have to use your watch carefully and not just leave everything on when you’re not really using it.

The watch works via Bluetooth which means if you want to receive notifications your phones Bluetooth will need to be on constantly. So as you can imagine your phone’s battery will take a beating.

What I Love

Aside from all the negatives, this watch/piece-of-technology is absolutely amazing! I can turn off my WiFi, put my phone on silent, start/stop music, change the volume, read/reply to texts, browse the internet, check my heart rate, show me workout routines on my wrist, set reminders/alarms and most important – It tells me the time!

Everything you ever wanted from a watch right? Well to be fair, there’s many more features like sending tweets, checking likes/comments on Instagram and play little silly games on your wrist.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, I don’t actually care about all of the features and benefits of this watch, I care how I look and will I inspire others when they look at me. Trust me when I say, this is watch that completes my outfit. The watch has an amazing glow that attracts people to stare at it while I walk. You can even change the straps to make it fit specifically to one of your outfits.
